A Simple Click on an Affiliate Link - BobWP Monetizer Podcast

I have talked in the past on this podcast about finding the sweet spot for your affiliate links.

Because, face it. Listing your links or dropping a bunch of ads in the sidebar just doesn’t cut it most times, if any.

There is an Exception to the Rule

When I started using affiliate links, several years ago, I was fortunate to have first gained the trust of many of my readers, which let’s face it, is an important piece in the affiliate puzzle.

I cannot tell you how many times I have received an email, or a direct message on social that goes something like this:

Hey Bob, I’m ready to purchase XYZ plugin and was wondering. Are you an affiliate? I would like to use your link to give you a few bucks as a thank you for all you do.

Well, I have to say that no matter how many times I see something like this, it amazes me that this person took the time to do this.

It really does.

Make It Easy to Click That Affiliate Link

The thing is, it takes time—on both sides— to make this happen. They have to contact me, and I have to dig up the link and send it back. And if they really need that product or service quickly, sometimes I am not around to respond right away.

I knew that, as we move into depending on affiliates as a more major part of our income, something had to give. Just yesterday, Mitch, a good friend, pinged me on Twitter about an affiliate link. I got it for him, but promised him a page he could bookmark for times like this. He loved the idea and 24 hours later I created this page: Support BobWP By Clicking an Affiliate Link.

There you will find a long, but simple,  list of plugins, themes, hosting and other services. Just names of products and services to click on. Nothing more.

The Page That Has a Purpose

Even though I added this page to a menu in the footer (titled Click a Link),  I would never assume it’s a page for the casual visitor. No one is going to just click a link and buy stuff. Not until:

* They know exactly what they want and why.

* They have grown to trust and respect me.

So here it is. Something you might want to consider for your clients. Or your readers.
