After spending a short time in foster care, she found some stability when she reunited with her mother and sisters at the age of 14. Determined to maintain control over her own life, Christine completed her education and joined the army in 1988. Despite facing multiple surgeries, she served in United Nations missions and represented Canada in various sports at international competitions. However, her dreams were hindered by the lack of support for athletes who didn't reach the highest level.
