In case you weren't aware, we are raising human beings who are going to grow to think, believe, and identify the way they choose. We can either accept that or resist that. There is no in-between.  Yet, so many caregivers do resist, or attempt to damage control, their children's choices when they realize they've chosen a different path from one they understand or agree with. Fear often drives caregivers to do this. Our question in this episode is this: "What are you afraid of?" In honor of Pride Month (June), AAPI Month (May), and Black History Month (February) we are taking a deeper look at acceptance and our children. On the foster and adoptive journey it's likely that we are parenting children who will choose different paths from us. And that's okay. Buckle up, because the crew goes deep in this episode with these questions:  What did you think would happen when you became a parent? Who did you think you would parent? What surprised you? What concerned you?  What delighted you?  What can we do as our children discover and explore their own identities? What can we do to support them? What can we do to educate and grow ourselves? Also on the show, Mike, Kristin and Nicole get personal... Currently, Nicole is following Mrcrim3 on TikTok, Kristin is following @steve.disselhorst and @blackwomenincharge, and Mike is kinda-sorta following CardiB (only to watch her video of a million dollar yacht sinking) Nicole shared that she is reading The Wrong Family by Tarryn Fischer, Kristin is reading How To Be An Antiracist by Ibram X Kendi, and Mike is reading The 1619 Project created by Nikole Hannah-Jones. Nicole is listening to Dark History on Spotify, Kristin is listening to Let's Get To It by Kelly Hamilton, and Mike is listening to The Top Gun Soundtrack and sometimes The Greatest Showman Soundtrack (when he wants to jack himself up with inspiration!) Thanks for stopping by this week ;-)
