Concern govt 'setting the stage' for Defence cuts: Opposition

The Defence Minister will today unveil the Nation's new Defence Strategy and Integrated Investment Program that will help shape what Australia's defence capability will look like in coming years and how much money it will take to get there.

It comes as tensions simmer within our own region and concerns grow over a potential escalation of conflict in the Middle East. Andrew Hastie, Shadow Defence Minister says this is a leadership test for Defence Minister Richard Marles and we need to see a "clear strategy". He says he is concerned this is "setting the stage" for defence cuts, and warns we cannot go backwards.
