For too long, the Black family home has been left out of the story of America—a missing character. Authors Jeanine Hays and Bryan Mason felt it was time to write that story. The result is a book that celebrates the beauty, culture and creativity that’s always been present, but too often ignored.

In this episode we learn:

- home is more than a place to live for Black families who have been denied for hundreds of years

- the connections we all make to home are deeply powerful

- despite imaginary divisions, we all need the same things

- for too many Black homeowners, there are still a variety of overt and hidden roadblocks to owning a home

- race covenants were a direct path to excluding Black families from home ownership

- the Fair Housing Act was enacted in 1968

- today, fewer Blacks own homes than their parents’ generation did

It’s time to take control of your business.
