In the spring of 1846, a wagon train of hopeful immigrants left Illinois, bound for California, but they had no idea what awaited them on the trail. Cursed by bad luck and mistakes, they took an untested route through mountains and deserts, only to be stranded in the Sierra Nevadas by heavy winter snowfalls.
