Anyone who has even the slightest connection to Israel is reeling from the recent horrific attacks.  For those who are strongly connected, there’s a chance that anger and even hatred are parts of these emotions. Is that okay? Should we feel bad about our emotional response to the hatred that others have shown? How do we deal with these negative emotions in light of our mission and calling as children of God and disciples of Yeshua?

Hatred In Your Heart?

Shalom Macon is a growing and vibrant Messianic Jewish congregation in Macon, Georgia, serving all of the Middle Georgia area. Our congregation is a diverse community, comprised of families from many nations, tribes, and tongues (Revelation 7:9). Therefore, obviously, many are not from a Jewish background. And while we are a Jewish synagogue, committed to the Jewish traditions, teachings, and lifestyle exemplified by our ancestors, our vision is to practice an inclusive Messianic Judaism for All Nations; a restoration of the faith of the earliest communities of Yeshua-followers; a window into the Judaism of the Messianic Era in which King Messiah will reign.

Many of us are prone to confirmation bias in our Bible study—reading a text we've encountered hundreds of times, believing we know exactly what it means, despite the context, and thereby confirming our interpretation. The problem is that often those interpretations are just plain wrong, or at least misguided or lacking. Many of Yeshua’s words and teachings are susceptible to confirmation bias, based on the long history of Christian interpretation. The world is undeniably beautiful, with humanity contributing to this beauty through architecture, art, cuisine, and music for millennia. Each of us possesses a God-given spark of creativity to enhance this beauty. As disciples, we are called to create a unique kind of beauty in this life. Unfortunately, many have fallen short.
