Welcome back to the TCFC podcast. In the United States, dating back to the Thirteen Colonies, approximately 364 juveniles have been executed by individual colonies, states, or the federal government, for crimes they were found guilty of committing. 22 individuals were executed between 1976 and 2005, for crimes committed when they were juveniles. In 1976, the Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty, and in 2005, they ruled that juveniles could not be sentenced to death, as it was a violation of the 8th Amendment (1).
