We all know that Artificial Intelligence is here to stay. But how many of us know the full extent of what this means? Not just the obvious things, like the threat to our jobs, or the potential dangers of surveillance. What about the deeper issues, like the impacts on our legal systems, our politics, our economies and our environment? This episode features an on stage discussion with Professor Kate Crawford, one of the world’s leading researchers into the social and political implications of AI. In her new book, called "The Atlas of AI: Power, Politics, and the Planetary Costs of Artificial Intelligence", Kate has meticulously mapped out how these new, rapidly evolving technologies are affecting our lives and our planet, and in doing so, has revealed how little we actually understand them. This session was recorded live at the All About Women festival, and was hosted by science communicator, Rae Johnson. - You can watch this talk along with the others recorded at the All About Women festival, on Stream, the new streaming service from the Sydney Opera House.
