EP 621: Lampers, Livesay, & Longevity in the Backcountry: Lessons from Seasoned Hunters

This week, I’m joined by a couple of seasoned hunters! To be fair, I give these guys a ton of flack for being so old, but I do strive to be hunting as hard as them in 15 years. Mark Livesay and Ryan Lampers are two guys I really look up to and consider friends. Although both have been on the podcast individually, this is the first time they’re together.

This year, I’ve been thinking a lot about longevity, something I haven’t considered before. I met a couple of hunters during my travels who told me, “Enjoy it because when you’re my age, you won’t be able to.”  Challenge accepted! My goal over the next 5-10 years is to make damn sure I can do everything I am doing now for the next 25 years. Here are two guys that not only walk the walk but probably outwalk me in doing so.

In this episode, I talk to my seasoned hunting buddies to see what they do right and what they would do differently at 37.

We also delve into bear hunting, as Mark and Ryan went on a bear bender last spring, hunting more days for spring bear than most hunters do in an entire year. We discuss spending that many days afield and how to set yourself up for success. It’s such a great episode, and I hope you guys get a lot out of the conversation.

Also, if you love bear hunting and want to learn from a couple of the best bear hunters out there, Mark and Ryan are putting on a bear tour where they go city to city for a 2-day bear hunting clinic. This is a great opportunity to not only learn from a couple of amazing bear hunters but also to surround yourself with like-minded hunters and all-around badasses.
