Meditation: Your Relationship (Wanting More)

Take a breath 

and come inside

to the presence.

Breathe into.

Feel it.

PAUSE

And, as you do, 

clear your mind.

Let any distracting thoughts

wash away like the tide.

PAUSE

Now, imagine if you can,

a relationship in your life

that left you feeling 

like you needed more.

PAUSE

It could be an intimate relationship,

like a spouse or partner,

a friendship,

or maybe a relationship  

with a parent, sibling or coworker.

Allow yourself to see the relationship

without judgment or frustration.

PAUSE

Now, visualize a magnifying glass

that appears in your hand

and gives you the ability

to see inside and around

all aspects of both people

in the relationship.

Take a minute and explore.

PAUSE

And, as the relationship is explored,

let its intricacies–whether positive or negative–

pass by you

without judgment or emotion.

You are simply an explorer.

PAUSE

Now, after exploring both yourself

And the other person in the relationship,

Imagine understanding what kept you

Wanting more.

Again, see it clearly without judgment or emotion.

 

PAUSE

Now, visualize the other person

as a one-quart pot of water,

and you, as a two-quart pot of water.

Hold the image.

Can you pour two quarts into the other person?

Can they pour two quarts into you?

No,

PAUSE

Now, take a deep breath,

and clear the image.

Breathe once more,

and let yourself understand

that a one-quart person

can never give you the two quarts you need.

So, what can you do?

You can accept that you need two quarts,

and leave the relationship 

because this person cannot give it to you.

Or, you can accept this person 

for the one quart they offer.

You have the power to choose.

 Any time. Anywhere. Always.
