Australia is often described as one of the most successful multicultural nations, but ongoing conflict in the Middle East and two horrific stabbing attacks in the past week have exposed the cracks in Australia's social cohesion.

The new Race Discrimination Commissioner is calling for unity against any rise in racist and divisive sentiment or the spread of disinformation. He says the speed with which the Wakeley Church stabbing was declared a terror incident "is concerning because whole communities get tarnished because of the actions by one person". He says this can lead to harmful misinformation being spread.

Guest: Giridharan Sivaraman, Race Discrimination Commissioner
