In February of 2023, we learned that we lost an icon of not just manga and anime, but a pillar of otaku fandom as we know it: Leiji Matsumoto. And so this month, we celebrated him and his beautiful Leijiverse by having a fan-made Memorial Livestream. For those that missed out on it, this is the audio from said livestream, in handy podcast form! The first part of the stream I was joined by Leiji Matsumoto translator and superfan, Zack Davisson, as we give some background on Matsumoto’s live and work. After that, I reached out to the Leijiverse fandom to get audio and written submissions on not only how Matsumoto’s work touched our hearts, but also significantly changed some of our lives.
