Today on the Elite Physical Therapy podcast we are joined by special guest Stephanie Wheeler PT, DPT. Dr. Wheeler is a clinic director at Elite’s Charles Street clinic in Providence, RI. Today on the podcast Dr. Wheeler and I discuss the vestibular system: what is it? what role does it play in the body? and how important rehabilitation can be for someone who has a vestibular disorder and/or deficits. Stephanie discusses how a vestibular evaluation can be different from a general post-op or orthopedic injury/deficit. We discuss specifically the most common vestibular disorder treated in the physical therapy field benign proximal positional vertigo (BPPV). We cannot stress enough how important it is to seek help if you have these symptoms, as some symptoms, if BPPV, can be cleared in only a few visits. We end our discussion by discussing continuing education course fellow physical therapists and students should consider if they would like to learn more about vestibular therapy. Another very informative episode for all, especially for those who suffer with constant episodes of dizziness or balance issues along with up in coming PT students who want to learn more about this subset in the field.
