Once an attendant in Akbar’s court broke one of Akbar’s favorite flower vase and when he was questioned, the servant lied thinking that Akbar will punish him since it was his favorite vase. But the truth was found out and the servant was expelled from Akbar’s court because of the lie. Birbal, on the other hand, tried to explain the general human tendency of lying which is always not just to cover up flaws or bad deeds but sometimes human beings lie not to break the other person’s heart. Unable to understand Birbal’s philosophy, even he was asked to leave the court by Akbar. That was when Birbal decided to teach Akbar the depth of his argument with the help of golden wheat.

Jalal-ud-din-Mohammad Akbar, also known as Akbar, was one of the most famous Mughal kings and he reigned India during the 16th century. Akbar, unlike other Mughal emperors, was keen to have talented people in his court irrespective of their religion. He had nine gems in his court and amongst them, Birbal was widely considered the most intelligent. A Brahmin by birth, Birbal’s original name was Mahesh Das and he met Akbar first time when he helped Akbar and his courtiers find the way back to their kingdom after having lost their way while on a hunting trip.
Akbar and Birbal’s friendship lasted for 30 years before Birbal became a casualty of a war with North West tribes and it is said that Akbar went into a deep mourning for 2 days on hearing this and didn’t eat any food. Numerous Akbar Birbal stories from this time have been passed on from one generation to another in which Akbar will test Birbal’s skills by throwing him into tricky situations and Birbal had to use his wit to get out of them. When the painter came back to show his work, the merchant tweaked his facial impressions and kept troubling the painter needlessly. The poor painter eventually saught Birbal's help to teach the merchant a good lesson.

Once Birbal met a very poor old man who has been cheated by a merchant. The poor old man was a very talented sculpture artist. In order to teach the greedy merchant a lesson, Birbal asked the old man to make a diamond from candy and then used his wit to get the old man's fortune back to him.
