In late June 1969, the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland, Ohio caught fire — a river so polluted with oily wastes, chemicals, and debris that the spark from a passing train caused it to ignite. But this was not the first time this river was ablaze, but in fact, it was at least the 13th time. However the 1969 fire came at a time of emerging national concern over pollution, made big news and became something of a famous disaster. In this episode, Robin tells us how a little river in Cleveland spawned the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency.
