The Wedding Planner (with Emma Gray and Claire Fallon)

This week, Kate’s on mat leave and invited Claire and Emma (from Love To See It podcast, formerly Here to Make Friends) to review one of Kate’s favorite semi-problematic romantic comedies: The Wedding Planner. They discuss the wedding romcom industrial complex, some of their favorite recent romantic recaps that did or didn’t stand the test of time, and then dive into one of J. Lo’s finest films, where the audience is made to root for a wedding vendor creeping behind their client’s back to seduce the groom. They LOL at the tried-and-true tropes, eye-roll at the gender dynamics, talk about the unlucky-in-love career woman archetype, and reexamine Matthew McConaughey’s character, wondering just how much ethically questionable behavior we’re willing to overlook if you work at a children’s hospital and save a Jimmy Choo from being steamrolled by a dumpster.
