Tschabalala Self is an artist born in Harlem who lives and works in Upstate New York. She received her undergraduate degree at Bard and her MFA from Yale. Recent solo exhibitions and perfiormances include Kunstmuseum, St Gallen, Le Consortium in Dijon, Performa 2021 Biennial in NYC, the Baltimore Museum of Art, the ICA in Boston, the Hammer Museum in LA, Art Omi in Ghent, the Yuz Museum in Shanghai and many others. She has had several museum shows and has had residencies at the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Red Bull House of Art in Detroit, Liquitex work residency in London, the Fountainhead Residency in Miami and many others.

Her work has been covered in Art in America, ArtForum, Artnet, Bomb, Cultured, Essence, Frieze, Hyperallergic, The New York Times, T Magazine, The Art Newspaper, The Guardian, Vouge, W and more.

Her work can be found in countless institutions, with highlights that include The Art Institute of Chicago, The Baltimore Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the California African American Museum, the Hirshhorn, LACMA, the New Museum, the MCA in LA, the Guggenheim, the Studio Museum in Harlem and the Whitney Museum.
