As it is in any culture, there are unique belief systems that spring up in response to the distinct experiences of people within a community. Oppression and/or racism in America and in the church has led to the formation of cults and black religious groups such as Hebrew Israelites, Moorish Temple of Science, and the Nation of Islam. What is central to each of these groups is a disdain for the Christian faith and its Christocentric teachings.
