0% Virgin : 100% Trash - That's the story of MINIWIZ's Trashpresso | Ep. #32

Listen Later

This week on weekly gupshup with Circular Collective, we bring to you the story of MINIWIZ.

Would you believe us if we told you that there is a machine that can instantly turn plastic waste into something useful instantly!

Yes, such a machine exists in reality that converts post-consumer waste into daily usable products and that machine is popularly known as “Trashpresso”-which is a mobile recycling & processing system.

Trashpresso can up-cycle upto 50kg of waste per hour.

It enables a true circular economy.

MINIWIZ is on a mission to change consumer behaviour into a circular one. It is the only way for us humans to sustainably consume our limited resources.

Today, mindless consumption has become a habit across various parts of the globe, and the team at MINIWIZ is innovating to satiate human demands with our own trash!

They like to call themselves magicians of trash. They have converted milk packets into hottest sports wear, plastic bottles have been converted into luxurious textiles, cigarette butts have been converted into furnitures & optical glasses.

They are not only upcycling trash, but making it into luxurious commodities. They use these recycled materials for industrial & interior design.

DYK! Today our world generates 2.01 billion tonnes of municipal solid waste, and the rate at which these numbers are increasing, it looks like MINIWIZ has an abundance of raw materials for their crazy innovations! Till date MINIWIZ has innovated over 1200 materials from trash!

Miniwiz was founded by Arthur Huang & Jarvis Liu in the year 2005. Since then they have pushed boundaries beyond all expectations, winning the company the Financial Times’ Earth Award in 2010 and The Wall Street Journal’s Asian Innovation Award in 2011. In 2015, Miniwiz received the Technology Pioneers title by the World Economic Forum.

Today, most segregated dry waste from developed nations such as the US & within Europe are shipped to India, Malaysia & Thailand & electronic wastes are being shipped to Africa. It makes me wonder how are we handling the imported waste, when our own Solid waste management is yet to become efficient!

So if such an innovation needs to be welcome in India, then one opportunity area would be to optimize industrial processes to make use of recycled materials..once this concept of industrial optimization becomes a living reality, manufacturing at scale is not far away.

Maybe as a starter, we can begin a crowd fund to clean the top 10 tourist attractions in India by installing Trashpressso at all those locations.

Miniwiz is actively looking for NGO and government partners across the world to activate Trashpresso. Please refer to the below links for more details.
