Life, Living It and Loving It

#012 Over-Refurbing and Exposure & Continuous Learning

Listen Later

Learning does not stop once you’re out of school. Every individual should be continuously learning and growing each day of his life!

In this latest episode of the Property Entrepreneur Podcast, Gordon talks about over-refurbing your property and continuous learning. When refurbing your property, it’s important that you know the set or typical standards in the area so your property can compete, if not steal a march on, with other properties. Discover the checklist of tasks you should do during the refurbing stage.

Lastly, we talk about how important it is to expose yourself to the old and new people, ideas, and other stuff to improve yourself. Gordon also shares his vacation-slash-personal development trip in Jamaica so make sure to tune in!

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Gordon’s highlight for the week:
    • Gordon chose to go on a holiday to explore, enjoy, and learn new things.
    • He recorded this episode while waiting to board his flight at the JFK airport.

Refurbing Your Property

  • When you purchase your property, there might be a chance that you need to refurb it. It could range from little (e.g. painting some scratches on the wall) to a ton of work (e.g. building a new kitchen)
  • Think about what will be your property strategy when you’re at the refurbishing stage. Know who can be the possible tenants. Look at similar properties around the area to see what they’re offering too.

Exposure and Continuous Learning

  • To achieve continuous learning, you have to expose yourself to new people and new ideas.
    • The two reasons why Gordon went and enjoyed Jamaica: holiday and personal development.
  • If you plan on growing a certain skill or knowledge, there are conferences, seminars, or forum you can attend to where you can hear from and collaborate with people in the field.
  • Read books (fiction or non-fiction), news, or any resources, may it be print or online. There’s a high chance that you’ll be learning new stuff whatever it will be. Do it at your own pace.
  • Listen to podcasts or watch videos online.

BEST MOMENTS

  • “Most properties need something doing with them. It’s just kind of what level you do that refurb.”
  • “It’s important that you continuously expose yourself to new ideas, new people, and new ways of doing things.”
  • “Taking that time out to consciously learn and grow is really important. And, I don’t think any of us do.”
  • “Incorporate something in regularly so you’re always learning something new and always growing.”
