Today we have a very special episode for all of you. British Police Sergeant Ralph Kern Interviews American Law Enforcement Officers Adam Richardson And Patrick O'Donnell!

As mentioned, on today’s show, we have two of the most esteemed guests this show has ever had. We’re going to chat with Patrick O’Donnell and B Adam Richardson, the founder of the Cops and Writers Facebook group, along with the books of the same name, and B Adam Richardson, creator of the Writer’s detective School and The Writers Detective Bureau Podcast and Facebook group.

These are the go-to resources that anyone who wants to write a cop thriller should use. Even those of us who are cops trying our hand at writing should view them as an invaluable resource for articulating our real-world experiences to the page.

For those who are a little confused about the role reversal here, when chatting during and after my own show, I realized how fascinating a career and life Patrick and Adam have had and how many questions I had for them. And I can’t be the only one in the group who feels like that.

It would, pun slightly intended, be a crime not to get that out there for you Cops and Writers.

First, can I just express the writing community’s thanks for the sheer amount of time and effort you gentlemen put in? The work you do is simply amazing.

On today's show we discuss:

Who are Patrick and Adam?

Tell us about your upbringing. When did that first spark an interest in the Police? Why?

What was the application and assessment process?

What was the training school like?

What was day one on the job like?

What was the on-the-job training you received?

First ‘sporty’ incident?

How do your forces work in terms of structure/departments? Response, Detectives, Support, Forensics, etc?

Your own career path?

Most enjoyable period of your career?

An experience that illustrates the real-life harshness of being a cop?

Bringing it back telling us an amusing story from your career?

What equipment are you equipped with?

Ranks and responsibilities?

How did you get into writing?

What do you get out of it?

About your books?

About your characters?

Realistic books / TV shows / Films which people can use as resources?

Tropes that are unrepresentative or you simply dislike.

You support writers both aspiring and veterans. What made you go down that line?

Discussion on mental health within the Police.

Thank you so much for everything you two do.
