The Savings Tip Jar

102: Which political party has the better tax policies? With H&R Block's Mark Chapman

Listen Later

On this week's episode we were joined by Mark Chapman, the director of tax communications at H&R Block, to discuss what each political parties are doing for tax in the lead up to this year's election. It's just over a week away, early votes and postal votes are being cast. Each side has automatic tax offsets promised, as well as a few other core policies of WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME... GIMME THE MONEY. Mark joined us to discuss all that and give us his 2 cents from an accountant's perspective.

Plus, we had Bernadette Lunas, resident finance journalist, on to talk about home loans for students - is it possible? Well the short answer is yes but like any customer, the bank will want to see a good income, good savings history, and stable employment. These are three ingredients that might prove difficult if you're a full-time student. This is where you'll need to get creative, like potentially getting a guarantor, or using the government's Home Guarantee Scheme. And as always, buy within your means - that probably means an apartment.

And all the latest news and savings tips, of course.
