This morning we discuss a second approach to the question we addressed yesterday (August 2, 2022) - why are the Crusades highlighted so prominently on Tisha B'Av, more than any other catastrophe in the last 2000 years? We explore the approach of the Rav, Rabbi Yosef Soloveitchik, that was the Crusades destroyed, along with the loss of physical life, the loss of a certain qualitative aspect of Torah life, the spiritual, emotional yearning for holiness and intimacy with God. This is a problem that is worse today than ever, and invoking the Crusades can be a beginning of trying to recover it.
