This morning we discuss Rabbi Avraham Kook's formulation of our need, with the establishment of the State of Israel, to be the People of the Book and the People of the Sword, using Torah values to defend and protect ourselves in Israel - in honour of Yom Yerushalayim (Jerusalem Re-Unification Day) this Sunday. We share examples of preserving humanity on the battlefield, and recognizing the need to find and correct mistakes, while aiming for zero errors. And we describe the intense responsibility of an IDF commander who must make split-second decisions weighing protecting enemy civilians while putting her own children at risk.
