Cooktops and ranges in certain occupancies (Group I-1 and I-2, Condition 1) must be protected by fire extinguishing systems that meet the following requirements:

  • Automatic activation upon detection of a fire.
  • Suppression of flames through the application of a wet-chemical extinguishing agent.
  • Burners must be listed to prevent ignition of cooking oil even after operating at maximum heat for 30 minutes.
