2025 July 14 - NGC 2685: The Helix Galaxy

In today's image, we see what is known as the Helix Galaxy which is an example of a rare type of galaxy known as a polar ring galaxy. It is expected that this is formed in an unusual type of collision which causes material to orbit perpendicular to the plane of the disk of the galaxy.
