[✐1. Adagio] Telling what you want to do.
“I want to do this and that!”
[00:06]
Hello, everyone. Let’s start.
Repeat after me
[00:11]
1. study [masu form] > want to study
→ I want to study Japanese more.
2. Play a game
→ I want to play a new game.
3. eat
→ I want to eat Tempura.
4. see/watch/look
→ I want to see a musical.
5. go to bed
→ I want to go to bed soon/early.
6. go
→ I want to go to Kamakura.
7. listen/hear
→ I want to hear your story.
8. buy
→ I want to buy a pair of headphones.
9. drink
→ I want to drink Chu-hai*.
(chu-hai= light alcohol drinks mixed with carbonated water etc. For details check out this link : https://www.tsunagujapan.com/10-japanese-chu-hai-you-can-buy-at-convenience-stores/ )
[02:28]
Now, answer as follows.
For example;
Do you want to drink Japanese tea? No.
→ No I don’t want to drink.
[02:39]
Ready?
[02:41 ]
1. Do you want to practice Kanji? No.
No, I don’t want to practice.
2. Do you want to play baseball? No.
No, I don’t want to play.
3. Do you want to see a horror movie? No.
No, I don’t want to see.
[03:30]
To be honest, those answers sound a bit harsh for Japanese people. When we want to politely say no, we probably say「Iie, chotto…」or「iie, Iidesu.
[03:45]
For example,
Do you want to play football/soccer?
IIe, chotto…(well, I don’t’ know…).
[03:52]
Next is “I want to do nothing”.
Repeat after me
[03:57 ]
1. Do you want to go somewhere? No, nowhere
→ No, I don’t want to go anywhere.
2. Do you want to drink something? No, nothing
→ No, I don’t want to drink anything.
3. Do you want to watch something on TV? No, nothing
→ No, I don’t want to watch anything.
[04:55]
By the way, when you want to suggest some kind of action, you’d better use 「〜masenka」, instead of 「〜tai」。
[05:05]
For example,
Do you want to come to my place? :-(
Why don’t you come to my place? :-)
