Monks practice self-abandonment in the form of charity. Charity not in the sense of giving away money because they have none. Self-abandonment doesn't come in the form of lacking in any basic needs either. We had everything we needed as monks: a place to live, food, and other needs like shampoo and toothbrushes. Self-abandonment comes in the form of putting others before yourself. In the monastery, it mostly consists of giving of your time. I would give myself to my brothers in helping them with a project or covering one of their duties. When you're a monk your time is not your own and you are there to be in service of others. Let's practice self-abandonment in giving ourselves to others when it comes to our time or simply listening to others when they're talking. https://MonkMindset.com
