Behind The Mic with David Cotter

#33-Ian Bailey and The Unresolved Case of Sophie Toscan Du Plantier

Listen Later

On the 23rd of December 1996, French socialite Madame Sophie Toscan Du Plantier was found murdered a couple of hundred meters from her holiday home near the coastal town of Schull in West Cork. The investigation later showed that Madame Du Plantier received several lacerations to her body, and received several brutal blows to the head which ultimately resulted in her losing her life.

To this day, no one has been convicted of the murder and it has continued to divide opinions among people nationally and internationally. However, one man's name continues to be linked to this incident to the present day.
Ian Bailey was convicted of murder in absentia in France in 2010. His extradition has been blocked 3 times by the Irish courts. The fact remains, Ian’s DNA has never been found or linked to the crime scene. All of the current evidence is circumstantial as echoed by the DPP here in Ireland.
I spoke to the man at the center of this Murder Mystery to try and learn more about his life, and to hear the story from the side of the accused.
Ian Bailey is Behind The Mic.
