56. From Burnout to Dubai with Kendria Johnson
Come and join Kendria and I as we discuss her life as a young adult having a baby to her career now teaching teachers who are close to or experiencing burnout!
Life and Career
Ms. Johnson resonates from Dallas, Texas where she began teaching in private schools in 2001. Immediately after the 911 tragedy, her career seemed to call her. She transitioned into education after years of denying that being a teacher was a good fit.
“I wanted what I did to matter. Working in the private school sector didn’t require a degree but by then I felt the hunger.”
Johnson received a Bachelor’s in Business Management soon after she started her life in teaching. She then received her Master’s in Education and Administration in 2006 when she began her career in public school teaching fourth grade Math and Science. It seemed to “stick” to her and bring in a brand new focus for her career choice. Ms. Johnson has a strong passion for girls in STEM careers as she, herself, has been teaching Math and Science for over eighteen years. “I had a daughter that loved Math and my desire is to inspire that passion into someone else’s daughter.” Kendria began public speaking in 2013, as supplemental income for teaching. Working with teachers in the American Federation of Teachers gave her the boldness to position herself as a teacher trainer and educational consultant. Within this organization, she was trained to be a Teacher Training Teachers. She has held numerous workshops for adults and students.
Recently Kendria has rekindled public speaking hosting events that develop her business and help teachers manage their classroom and their personal lives. She moved to United Arab Emirates in 2015 hoping to get a break from the stress-filled life that consumes teachers in public school education. Now is the time to give back those 20 years for knowledge to someone else.
