None of Jesus' followers expected to have their souls whisked off to heaven at death. Instead, they fully understood and anticipated the return of Jesus to establish his kingdom. They asked until the day he was taken up to heaven, Lord, would thou restore the kingdom to Israel again? (Acts 1:6).

He answered: "It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power {or authority}. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost comes upon you..."
