This episode focuses on Christ's message to the church in Pergamum. He commends them for remaining faithful to Him despite the persecution they faced, which included the martyrdom of one of their members, Antipas. 

But He also rebukes them for some of the members within the church who hold to false teaching. It's the teaching called Nicolaitans, which is associated with error and immorality, similar to what Balam did in seducing the Israelites to idolatry and sexual immorality 

The challenge for us today is,  will we hold on to the truth of the gospel? Will we preach and live out that truth faithfully? Or will we start to compromise like the church in Pergamum was doing despite their good reputation of enduring persecution 

Here, we will learn that the greatest danger facing the church is not from outside (persecution) but from inside,  that is, it's internal doctorinal and moral decay. And Jesus' promise to those who hold on to the truth to the end is eternal life in the kingdom of God.
