In this episode, we see Jesus commending the church at Ephesus for being good at hating evil and error and for enduring suffering for Christ's name. This commendation is a reminder to us that every good deed done in honour of Christ does not go unnoticed. He sees it and He commends it. The church in Ephesus is also a good example to us today. We should be a church, we should be individual Christians who love the truth of the gospel and are willing to defend it despite the suffering and the persecution that comes with it.

On the other hand. Christ rebukes this church for forsaking their first love. It's a reminder and caution to us today, not to just be believers who are concerned about the truth, about doctrinal purity, but also to be believers who are growing in our love for Jesus and for one another. 

The message ends by Jesus' promise that if we conquer, we will have the right to eat from the tree of life. This is a promise of everlasting life with God, for all those who will persevere to the end.
