In this Episode, we ask ourselves four questions. Who is the book of Revelation from? Who is it for? What is the book all about? And why should we read it?
We will see that the book is a revelation from God. It is, therefore, the Word of God, not merely John’s thoughts or ideas, and therefore, we should pay attention to what it teaches, as we should to the rest of the Scriptures. We will also see that the book is for all Christians, which means that all Christians can understand what is written therein. Therefore, we ought to read and keep what is written in it. The book is about “the word of God” and “the testimony of Jesus,” which is John’s way of talking about the Gospel. So Revelation does not teach us a new gospel. It doesn’t add to or subtract from the gospel. It only tells us the same gospel, only with a different language, a language of pictures and symbols. Finally, we will see that the book is meant to keep us faithful, holding on to Christ until He returns despite the opposition and the suffering we will experience in this world. That is why we should read it today because it is as relevant to us as it was to the seven churches in Asia in the first century.
