Customarily on coronation day the person to be anointed king would stand by a pillar. That pillar would be considered his. In other events he would stand by that pillar to give a public decree. When one was standing by that pillar you knew that person was the king. God told the church of Philadelphia that if they overcame he would make them a pillar in the house of God. We should all desire to be a resolute pillar that the King of Glory can stand by.
