something came over someone – be suddenly affected by a strong feeling or emotion
way late into [something] – far along in a period or situation
bleak – hopeless, depressing, or cold emotionally or physically
make someone’s life hell – cause someone a lot of stress, misery, or difficulty
die laughing – laugh extremely hard
annulled – declared legally invalid
