In which a cunning duke and king devise a curious and rather comic disguise for Jim, dressing him as a “Sick Arab” to spare him the misery of being tied up while they make their schemes on the riverbanks. The king, adopting the air of a pious Englishman, engages a well-informed local stranger in deep talk about the recently deceased Peter Wilks and his kin, while the two impostors then put on a woeful display of grief to gain the sympathy of the townsfolk.
