Newly named McNeese State Head Women’s Basketball Coach, Ayla Guzzardo, joined us on a
rare quiet morning to talk hoops, motherhood and moving. Ayla was most recently the head
coach at Southeastern Louisiana University for eight seasons. Her teams won two conference
championships and competed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament as well as the 2025 WBIT. The
two-time Southland Conference Coach of the Year talks about her coaching journey, her
decision to make an in-conference move and what it’s been like to move away from her
hometown. Ayla’s journey to motherhood is an inspiring story of faith and resilience through
adoption. Everyone is getting used to their new mascot and colors!
