Aladdin Ullah joins us to discuss creating and starring in the one-man show, “Dishwasher Dreams.” Ullah draws on his father’s life experiences as a steamship worker from East Bengal who made his way to New York in the 1920s, worked as a dishwasher and line-cook, and for a time in the late 1940s ran one of the city’s first Indian restaurants. Ullah recalls his parents’ attempts to raise him Muslim in Spanish Harlem and his determination to follow his own path – through Hip Hop and graffiti art to the comedy circuit. "Dishwasher Dreams" is now playing at the Castillo Theatre through November 18.

Comedian Nore Davis joins us (at 18:45) to discuss his new album, “Too Woke,” which explores questions of race, white supremacy, and gender norms. It comes out on November 23rd on Blonde Medicine.

Alex Katz joins us (at 34:10) to discuss his book, Looking at Art with Alex Katz. Describing his personal encounters with the work of over 90 key artists, Katz's observations offer a fluent, vivid, and incisive view, making this book the perfect guide both for those looking for an introduction to the world of visual art, and anyone looking for a fresh view on their favorite artist. On January 29, Katz will be in conversation with Calvin Tomkins and Dodie Kazanjian at the 92Y.
