In this episode Joe shows how the 1,848 Alternative C Chords in his book, "Guitar Chords for the 21st Century" can be used to give you creative freedom in your songwriting, as your compositions immediately break free from the classic chords and progressions which are used so heavily by songwriters, giving you a fresh and innovative sound.

Most songs use chords built on interval of the 3rd - major, minor, augmented, etc. - 6th, 7th, 9th, 13th - in this episode Joe plays examples of how you can use chords based on intervals based on the 2nd chord, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and octaves.

These chords provide guitarists with a new reservoir palette of chord colors - dark, light, and shades in between.

With 308 chord types in six positions (1 position with a root on each string), that's 1,848 chords. Since the chord shapes are movable like barre chord, you have over 22,000 new chords to use in your song!

Songwriting examples in this lesson include "Under the Bridge" by RHCP, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana, and "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin.
