As anti-racist protests continue around the world, Valerie Amos, director of SOAS and soon to be the first black head of an Oxford college, talks to Christiane Amanpour about the UK Prime Minister’s new commission on race inequality and the urgent need to decolonize our curriculum. Since the death of George Floyd, we have been going through a cultural reckoning, questioning what TV shows we watch and the language we use. David Simon, creator of celebrated HBO series “The Wire”, talks about the impact of cop shows have on the imagination. Simon has covered American policing for decades and argues that the real issue lies in the misguided war on drugs and the militarization of the police. Our Michel Martin speaks to Phillip Atiba Goff, the co-founder and CEO of Center for Policing Equity, about fighting implicit biases in police departments. He explains how his team are working in collaboration with law enforcement and in communities to prevent more unnecessary deaths.
