Welcome to this English listening practice lesson! In this lesson I'll be telling an English story at three different speeds.

The first time I will tell it slowly, speaking each word clearly, and not using any contractions or reductions. The second time I'll tell the story at a quicker pace, and use contractions. The third time I'll speak close to my normal speed and use contractions and reductions.

If you watch this English lesson until the end you'll also hear me attempt to read the story at a ludicrous speed, as well as an extra slow version.

I hope you enjoy this little English listening class! Have a great day!

Version 1 (Slow Speed):

Let me tell you about a young man named Paul.

He did not like going to the mall.

When his mom would say, “Time to go!”

He would say, “I am just going to stay home!”

And this would drive his mom up the wall.

Because she would leave in the car,

and she would not get far,

before Paul would text her and ask,

“Could you buy me some new pants

and a couple of new houseplants.

Oh, and I am kind of hungry, could you get me something to eat?”

She would then stop the car.

and text a reply.

Saying, “You should have told me that before I left.

I am going to come back home to get you.

I will be home in a couple of minutes.

Please be ready to go!”
