There are a number of climate models that could predict the intensity of the upcoming El Nino this year (2023). Some articles are predicting that we are going to have a Super El Nino, which could have devastating effects to many vulnerable areas around the world and the clean up from the damage could be in the billions of dollars. The last El Nino event was in 2015-2016 and it was considered a super El Nino, where the surface temperatures in the Eastern Pacific exceeded 2C.
