The A’s came out on the wrong end of a power surge Monday night, falling 7-4 to the Rays after Brandon Lowe and Junior Caminero delivered back-to-back home runs in the seventh inning. Ryan Pepiot held the A’s to just one run through six-plus innings, with his only blemish coming on Shea Langeliers’ solo homer in the fifth. Christopher Morel and Josh Lowe each chipped in RBIs for Tampa Bay, while Nick Fortes’ two-run single in the second set the tone early. 

The A’s made it interesting late when Tyler Soderstrom launched a three-run bomb in the seventh to cut the deficit from five runs to two. But the Rays added insurance on Lowe’s sacrifice fly in the eighth, and Pete Fairbanks nailed down his 20th save despite a leadoff double from Nick Kurtz in the ninth. The loss snaps the A’s momentum and gives Tampa Bay the jump in the series.
