This interview was conducted Tuesday, Aug. 18, in the Athens ISD administration building.
===
Athens ISD students will be in the classroom starting Monday -- well, about half of them will be, at least. AISD Superintendent Dr. Janie Sims said about 50 percent of the district’s student population have opted to return to in-person instruction starting next week.
With the restart imminent, I sat down with Dr. Sims and Director of Federal Programs and Human Resources Ginger Morrison to discuss the district’s COVID preparations.
Topics include:
* Parent Handbook explaining COVID guidelines. (Find it here http://bit.ly/AISDCOVIDhandbook)
* Changing guidelines
* The steps AISD is taking to mitigate the spread of COVID
* The importance of parents checking students before school
* What happens if a student has a temperature when trying to get on the bus or enter the school
* What happens to students who test positive for COVID
* What happens to students who are in contact with a positive case
* How notifications will be handled
* What happens if a classroom or campus has to be shut down
