Singin' in the Rain and Babylon both track the transition in the film industry from the silent films to the talkies. For Don Lockwood, lead of The classic musical, its a breeze except for his squawking co-star Lena whom he has attached at the hip. From Damien Chazzelle's perspective, it went down a little differently. For Manny Torres, it throws his and his fellow artists lives upside down, as they are forced to change with the times in an industry that does not value them.
