Publisher's Summary:
This encapsulates a notion, a bit of whimsy that occurred to me. A "whatever happened to...?" for a minor character from Dickens' old tale.
In the full text of A Christmas Carol, a mature Belle is briefly seen by Scrooge at home with her husband and children. She is also seen in a caregiving setting in the wonderful 1951 film version starring Alastair Sim.

Dickens, Scrooge and A Christmas Carol walk the earth again
As I began reading this wonderful short story I felt as Scrooge did in A Christmas Carol when his doorknocker morphed into the face of Jacob Marley. Dickens and Scrooge have come back to life! For we who hold A Christmas Carol as the literary embodiment of the meaning and the power of Christmas will enjoy this lyrical, nostalgic and heartfelt sequel to the Scrooge story. Dave Davis nicely captures the Dickensian spirit and Dickensian language; he gives us more of what we love - more Christmas Carol. A wonderful story to share on Christmas Eve. And that's no humbug!
it's nice to take a wander down an uncharted path
Only giving four stars instead of five because colonial pieces aren't really my thing -- but that said, as we sit around our televisions for countless hours this holiday season treading the same well-traveled roads we've traveled in years past, it's nice to take a wander down an uncharted path. And that's just what Mr. Davis does here, exploring the potential rekindling of Ebeneezer Scrooge's relationship with the fiancee that got away...
Although set and toned in the style of Dickens' original, the story provides some not-so-subtle parallels between Olde England and present-day America, but Davis never strays too far from the characters, which are the real interest here. A solid read; print it and sit by your fire for half-an-hour or so and enjoy!!
A Worthy Epilogue to Dickens' A Christmas Carol
Davis' work fits seamlessly alongside Dickens' original; one could be forgiven for mistaking the style for Dickens himself. As such, expect the prose to befit Dickens' time. It's a wonderful epilogue to the classic tale; a chance for Scrooge to reconcile the life he learned to change with his new, better angels, and find something of a happy ending for himself. This short work humanizes Scrooge more so than the original piece, as befits a man who is truly changed.

Each story has a completely different setting and theme, but each grabs your attention and keeps it. The author has a gift of writing with a completely different voice with each tale, a skill not often seen in today's writers.
