He grew up in a wealthy family but with parents who had no real living faith and he was in a very difficult environment in which he wanted to live out his faith and yet his heart was just so different and so burning with desire for God. In politics during his lifetime and fascism, just the way he held so firmly to what he believed and wasn’t afraid .. he knew the truth and he lived it out as best he could. That really touched me, this determination that he had. And his love for the Eucharist. .. And then to think about how many of the poor and disabled and those who were struggling in poverty, how amazingly he touched their lives. He is an incredible witness of charity in action and really going out into where other people don’t want to go and meeting people and bringing the light of Christ into their lives."
