Black And Middle Class In 1968 D.C. — A Conversation With My Father

Growing up, Jonathan Wilson didn’t hear much from his father about race. An African-American who grew up in D.C. through the ‘60s and ‘70s, Jonathan's dad - Robert Wilson Jr. - lived in what he called a “cultural cocoon” of a safe black middle class existence. It wasn’t until Jonathan talked with some of his father’s classmates from Archbishop Carroll High School that he learned how the riots changed the way they thought about race, and how that guided their lives as adults.
